Early Literacy Development

2nd August 2010

Al-Hidayah Islamic School believes that education in school happens through the interaction and support between school, parents and the wider community.

Elaine Blake from AISWA and the FIELD project met the Pre Primary parents and had a discussion about developing English for Early Learners.

When children begin school for the first time, in some ways, moving away from the world of parent and family and into the world of children can be somewhat taxing.

The focused intervention Early Literacy Development tutorial gave the parents a clear awareness on how to prepare their child for the structured classroom and its education demands.

Parents had hands on activity by using resources available at home to develop language, particularly oral language which forms a base for language develop in later years.

This confidence building is vital to make the child confident and feel happy at school, particularly on the first day. Many children dislike school because it was associated with a negative experience.
